Studies of random samples of fish oil supplements by independent analysts have led to startling revelations. Most of the fish oil supplements fail to come close to the quantity of fish oil that they claim to contain. An extensive investigation has shown that many products contain inadequate quantity of DHA. The lower levels of EPA and DHA will lead to reduced potency in all the users of these fish oil supplements.
Taking approximately 5 grams of omega-3 a day can lead to healthy arteries with less chances of clogging. If the fish oil supplements provide less than this amount, then the patient will not get the protection that he desires. He still runs the risk of coronary heart disease. And to add insult to injury, the studies also reveal that there were no detectable levels of mercury in the fish oil supplements which leaves a certain amount of doubt regarding their extraction from authentic fish. This cannot be forgiven given the need for authentic fish oil for most of the population.
Besides many good effects of EPA and DHA are its effects in preventing heart disease and atherosclerois. They also reduce triglyceride levels and raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels in the blood. This results in the thinning of the blood with better circulation and less chances of clogging the arteries. When such important issues are at stake, it is shameful for manufacturers to stoop to such dismal levels. Care must be taken to restore the required levels of fish oil in the supplements and gain the faith of the consumers by providing authentic fish oil supplements.
